Private Tour of the old masters and decorative art sales “A Venetian Legacy”, Sotheby’s

On the 4th of December 2017 FAI UK – The Italian Heritage Trust was hosted by Sotheby’s London at a boardroom breakfast and private view of the old masters and decorative arts sale “A Venetian Legacy”.

Passionately assembled by a discreet private collector, this collection of fine Italian furniture, Old Master paintings and sculpture is a personal homage to Venice. Highlights from this region include Fortune Teller by Pietro Longhi and A Mediterranean Port View by Luca Carlevarijs, the pioneer of Venetian vedute. Making a rare appearance at auction are two armorial roundels by Giovanni Della Robbia, and an important Renaissance table from Florence with the coat of arms of the Canigiani family.

Today's visit tip takes us to Rome!
Let's discover a jewel of Roman Baroque, the #GalleriaColonna.
It was designed as a grand reception hall to celebrate the victory of the Christian fleet over the Turks at the Battle of Lepanto in 1571.
Commissioned in the mid-1600s by Cardinal Girolamo I Colonna and designed by architect Antonio del Grande, it was later integrated by Gian Lorenzo Bernini, Johan Paul Schor and Carlo Fontana and finally inaugurated in 1700.
The prestigious Gallery, divided between richly decorated rooms, includes paintings by the likes of Bronzino, Tintoretto, Guercino and Annibale Carracci.
A Roman stop not to be missed.

Last Saturday, @fondoambiente inaugurated the Vela

Last Saturday, @fondoambiente inaugurated the Velarca, a houseboat designed by Milan-based Studio BBPR in 1959 and moored in Ossuccio, Tremezzina, on Lake Como, opposite Isola Comacina.

Aldo and Maria Luisa Norsa donated the Velarca to the FAI in 2011. After a long restoration period, It returned to its original mooring and was opened to the public.
The Velarca is not just a simple houseboat but a small masterpiece of modern architectural history, signed by the same architects as the Torre Velasca, symbol of Milan, and deliberately recalled in the name ‘Velarca’. Not just a holiday home but a special place imagined by Fiammetta and Emilio, Aldo Norsa's parents, destined to receive, welcome and bring together friends and acquaintances who also used to visit their Milanese home, including great personalities of Italian culture, starting with the Milanese architects Rogers, Peressutti and Belgiojoso, as well as Riccardo Sambonet, Gio Ponti, Gillo Dorfles, Eugenio Montale, Lucio Fontana, Umberto Eco, Cesare Musatti, and others.

A new FAI property now open to the public, Velarca was added to the 71 managed by the Foundation throughout Italy, including the neighbouring FAI properties - Villa del Balbianello and Torre del Soccorso, in the same municipality of Tremezzina.

This is a new cultural offer for Lake Como, with which FAI wants to contribute to promoting diversified and more sustainable tourism, offering a new destination, a new viewpoint on the Lake Como landscape and a new story to tell that will thrill the curious and satisfy specialists and amateurs alike.

Finally, the Velarca is a cultural asset that is entirely original in terms of its type, and yet a monument in its own right: a pinnacle of Italian culture in the field of modern architecture and design, reflecting the incredible variety and richness of the country's heritage that FAI, by mission, with a subsidiary spirit, protects and promotes forever and for all.

Where did you spend or are you spending your holidays? We are taking you to Naples today! The sightseeing tip we want to give you is in the heart of the old city centre. The 𝗢𝗽𝗲𝗿𝗮 𝗱𝗶 𝗦𝗮𝗻 𝗗𝗼𝗺𝗲𝗻𝗶𝗰𝗼 𝗠𝗮𝗴𝗴𝗶𝗼𝗿𝗲 tells us about eight centuries of art, history, culture and faith.

The walls of the basilica and the convent preserve the memory of illustrious figures: from philosophers such as St Thomas Aquinas and Giordano Bruno, to artists such as Raphael, Titian, Caravaggio and many others.
In the photo, you can admire the Sacristy, a Baroque jewel designed in the early 18th century, and its gallery housing forty-two tombs, known as the Aragonese Archaeology. Also pictured is the Basilica and one of the chapels.

Today, @fondoambiente inaugurated the Aula del Sim

Today, @fondoambiente inaugurated the Aula del Simonino, formerly known as Cappella del Simonino, in Trento. The Aula del Simonino is located inside Palazzo Bortolazzi Larcher Fogazzaro, in the city's historic centre.

Marina Larcher Fogazzaro bequeathed this place to FAI in 2018, so that it could be restored and enhanced. The Foundation honours this generous gesture by opening to the public, from today on a regular basis (Wednesday to Sunday, from 10am to 6pm), a new Property, which joins the 55 already open to the public among the 72 owned and managed throughout Italy by the Foundation, including the Castello di Avio in the same region.

Thanks to the donor's bequest, and with further contributions, the FAI carried out restoration work: first on the façade of the Palazzo, uncovering the 15th-century windows and restoring colour and legibility to the figures and inscriptions painted in the 18th century; then also inside, where much larger contemporary frescoes are preserved, and in the apse space, between two small rooms used as sacristies, where the original altar is located, with architectural and sculptural decorations in polychrome marble in the Baroque style.

The interior has also been rearranged to realise a new and original cultural enhancement project, which consists of a 'sound narrative' dedicated to the story of little Simone da Trento, which will be permanently accessible here. The public, seated on wooden benches like those of a choir, will listen in the dark, in wireless headphones, designed to offer high quality audio, to a narration of about 20 minutes, informative, didactic, but also highly suggestive and with a particular immersive effect.

@villafogazzaroroi consists of a set of buildings on several levels, leaning against and adapting to the steep slope of the mountain behind. The roofs (the roofs) of these six buildings flank each other in an articulated manner, creating a complex system of wooden beams and typical brick tile roofs.

Thanks to funding from Fondazione Cariplo under the Bando 2021 - SOS Patrimonio, it was finally possible to undertake a major extraordinary maintenance and structural improvement work on both the roofs and the walls of the residence overlooking the Italian shore of Lake Lugano.

@fondoambiente and the Palazzo Moroni Museum Foundation have inaugurated @palazzomoronibergamo in Bergamo!

After the opening of the gardens and the ortaglia in June 2020 in the midst of the pandemic, and that of four rooms with splendid Baroque frescoes in September 2021 (as part of the celebrations for the 500th anniversary of the birth of Giovanni Battista Moroni, whose masterpieces are preserved in these rooms), the 17th-century palace in the heart of Bergamo Città Alta opened in full from Wednesday, November 22, 2023, on the occasion of the event "Bergamo Brescia Capital of Culture 2023."

Dedicated to Giulia Maria Crespi on the centenary of her birth, the Convent and its church will be the subject of a major renovation project financed by the Ministry of Culture and Compagnia di San Paolo to tell the story of Adriano Olivetti's enterprise in the place that was once the family home.

Conceived both to protect the plants from the strong winds that blow in every season and to cope with the water shortage that can sometimes lead to 300 uninterrupted days of drought, the Pantelleria garden represents a marvel of nature and human ingenuity.

The Donnafugata winery is home to the @giardinoeticopantesco, one of the few ancient projects still standing on the island of Pantelleria, which contains a unique, extraordinary, centuries-old 'Portogallo' orange tree that, thanks to the surprising microclimate generated by the self-sufficient agronomic system, lives in excellent conditions, rich in fruit and seeds.

A new exhibition just opened at @negozioolivetti l

A new exhibition just opened at @negozioolivetti last week.

"Massimo Micheluzzi at the Negozio Olivetti", curated by Cristina Beltrami, is a collection of 44 mosaic vases created specifically by the artist, using the blown glass mosaic technique, in an ideal dialogue with the architecture of the Property. An exchange that, for Micheluzzi, plays on the essence of Scarpa's language and the deep connection of both with Venice.
