The Garrick is one of the best known London men’s clubs, founded specifically for those with an interest in the theatre. It was built in the Italian palazzo style but is a bastion of traditional Englishness. It is also home to one of the finest collections of theatrical portraits, dating from the eighteenth century to the present day. Artists represented include Zoffany, Lawrence and Millais, while paintings of every British actor of note, from David Garrick to Michael Gambon, hang on the walls. FAI UK took their members to a tour followed by drinks and lunch in the club’s private dining room.
