On 6th  February 2017, FAI UK: The Italian Heritage Trust was hosted by Sotheby’s London at a reception to introduce FAI and its commitment to fostering the preservation and appreciation of Italy’s national heritage to Italophiles residing in the UK.

The evening started with welcome speeches by Ambassador Alain Economides, Chairman of FAI UK, and Mario Tavella, Chairman of Sotheby’s Europe, followed by a brief talk about FAI by Anna Somers Cocks OBE, FAI UK Trustee. Gaia Servadio and Maria Carolina di Valmarana, FAI UK Trustees, were also present and were instrumental to the success of the event.

James Stourton, former Chairman of Sotheby’s, gave a lecture entitled “Why the English Love Italy”, followed by a drinks party with sparkling wine donated by Brachetti Peretti and wine of Cantina Bruno Vespa generously donated by Gabriella Bassatne.

FAI UK is a British registered charity working to support FAI – Fondo Ambiente Italiano (Italy’s equivalent of the National Trust) and its numerous restoration and education projects.

FAI UK relies on the support of individuals who share the values of FAI’s mission. This year’s contributions will go towards the restoration of the Abbazia di Santa Maria di Cerrate, a medieval monastic complex near Lecce in the region of Puglia.

The programme of forthcoming events includes journeys to Italy and cultural visits in the UK. For more information, please write to info@faiuk.org.
